Jack S. Richter, CPA - Founder

Jack’s career in public accounting spans over 50 years. Born in Austria, Jack came as a student to Chicago in 1955 where he attended Roosevelt University, earning his bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1959. Jack started his profession as an auditor with the accounting firms of Katz Wagner (merged into Grant Thornton) and later with Blackman Kallick (Plante Moran) where he became partner.

After founding J.S. Richter, Ltd. in 1979 and capitalizing on his German language skills, Jack developed his reputation in the specialty niche area of German, Swiss, and Austrian companies who establish subsidiaries in the USA. Since then, he focused the firm exclusively in this area, later expanding the portfolio to other European countries. Jack grew and developed the practice over the next 19 years, after which he convinced his son Michael to join the firm. In 2010, Michael assumed the role of managing director. Today, as director of the firm, Jack continues to assist in management of the firm and work together with Michael on client development and consulting.

Jack is a lifetime member of the AICPA and a member of the Illinois CPA society where he served on several committees. He is also a member of the board of directors of the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest since 1979. In his spare time, Jack enjoys managing his investment portfolio and travel. His wife Sandra was office manager in the early years of the firm. They live in Glencoe, Illinois.
